1. Identify the source
The first step is distinguishing rain runoff, groundwater, wall seepage, cracks, floor joints, sump problems, plumbing, or condensation.
2. Control or collect the water
Solutions can include exterior measures, crack treatment, interior perimeter drainage, or other water-management components.
3. Move water away
Collected water must have a dependable discharge path. In many systems this is handled by a sump pump.
4. Match the system to the problem
The strongest system is not necessarily the most complicated one. The goal is a coherent solution to the actual water path.
